Which character in Marvel's Spider-Man 2 would be the host taken over by Venom has been the topic of much discussion, but a brand-new trailer premiering at San Diego Comic Con appears to have confirmed the most obvious candidate. Venom is among the webhead's most popular rogues, and was teased in both Marvel's Spider-Man and its spin-off follow-up, Miles Morales, before being confirmed for the hotly anticipated sequel, which is arriving October 20, 2023, exclusively for the PlayStation 5.

The latest trailer from Insomniac Games (via Twitter) dropped during the Marvel's Spider-Man 2 at SDCC, confirming that Harry Osborn will be the host of Venom.

Based on the post-credit scenes in both Marvel's Spider-Man and Miles Morales, this may not come as a surprise, as it was heavily implied Harry would be taken over by the symbiote. It was revealed throughout the course of the first game that Harry was suffering from a rare disease which took the life of his mother, and had been confined to a lab by his father, Norman Osborn, where the Venom symbiote was seemingly being used as an experimental treatment.

Harry Osborn Is Venom In Marvel's Spider-Man 2

Harry Osborn was largely absent from the first to Marvel's Spider-Man games due to his health concerns, but is set to be a major part of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 as the host of Venom. The alien symbiote – though not confirmed to be from space in Insomniac's universe – will, however, be a character of its own, voiced by Tony Todd. The actor is perhaps best known for his role as the eponymous Candyman in the 90s horror film series, a role which helped him land the voice acting job for Venom. At SDCC, Insomniac Games' Bryan Intihar said he heard Todd's voice in the trailer for 2021's Candyman, and knew he was the perfect actor to cast as Venom.

Although Harry Osborn is confirmed to be Venom's host in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, it would seem that his stint in that role is short-lived. Previously released gameplay shows Peter using Venom's abilities in the black symbiote suit, which perhaps suggests the symbiote is successfully extracted from Harry early in the game. Insomniac has also previously stated that its version of Venom is entirely new, saying, "It's not Eddie Brock," or any other previous host returning. Harry Osborn may start out as Venom's host in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, but it seems unlikely to remain attached to him throughout the full game.
