Insomniac Games has revealed a new limited edition Marvel's Spider-Man 2 PS5 console bundle, including a DualSense controller, and fans who already own the console can purchase Spider-Man plates as an alternative. The superhero title had a major showcase at San Diego Comic-Con with a new story trailer, and a panel that explored the relationships between Spider-Man and Venom in the game.

A reveal video on the official PlayStation YouTube page shows a design on both the console's plating and a custom DualSense controller that looks like the branding used in much of the game's promotional material, with the white spider symbol on a red background, gradually being taken over by the black Venom symbiote.

The new limited PlayStation 5 bundle is available for pre-order on July 28 and will release September 1, 19 days before Marvel's Spider-Man 2's main release date. The Spider-Man 2 limited edition PS5 bundle will also include a digital copy of Marvel's Spider-Man 2's standard edition with the pre-order bonuses, but it had already been reported that players will be able to upgrade standard copies to the Digital Deluxe version on the PS store at a later date should they wish. No prices have been confirmed at the time of writing.

The Spider-Man 2 PS5 Is Representative Of Players' Experience With The Symbiote

In a new PlayStation Blog post discussing the Marvel's Spider-Man 2 PS5, Insomniac Games' Senior Art Director Jacinda Chew elaborated on the design idea for the limited edition console. According to Chew, the design "represents the various ways players will experience the symbiote takeover" with the console entirely black on one side to represent the Venom symbiote, but revealing some underlying red under the tendrils on the other, mirroring the "push and pull for dominance" between Peter and the symbiote in-game.

Spider-Man 2 PS5 Plates Will Be Released Separately

Those who already own a PlayStation 5 console but want the Marvel's Spider-Man 2 aesthetic don't need to worry about trading in their console for the limited edition bundle either. PlayStation has confirmed that the PS5 plates and DualSense controller will be available for purchase separately, enabling all PS5 owners to customize their consoles with this red and black design.

Players in the U.S., U.K., France, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Austria, and Portugal will be able to purchase both the special edition Marvel's Spider-Man 2 console bundle or the individual items directly from PlayStation Direct - much as they could with Sony's past official PS5 plates, and Marvel's Spider-Man 2's Collector's Edition. It will also be available in limited quantities at other select retailers - however, Sony has not elaborated on which retailers these will be. One thing's for certain: these consoles are likely to sell out quickly, so fans are advised to keep tabs on PlayStation's social channels for further release details.
