Screen Rant has received an exclusive first look at a new cinematic trailer for Parallel, an upcoming sci-fi trading card game. The turn-based title is set thousands of years in the future, where humans escaped a dying Earth and have since undergone one of five simultaneous evolutions to become Parallels. After 10,000 years the planet has become hospitable again, and the five groups find themselves in conflict as they all attempt to lay claim to Earth.

A new cinematic trailer gives a glimpse at the sort of conflict players can expect when Parallel releases. The video highlights one of the Parallel streams, the Mars-based Marcolians led by General Catherine Lapointe, who are clashing over intergalactic territory with the Echelon Cartel. After exchanging threatening words with one another, the trailer ends with the Marcolian leader asking to bring up the tactical array, with a battle seemingly imminent.

Though the final version of the game has no set release date, players looking to join the fight can sign up for early access on the Parallel website, which begins July 31.

Parallel will have several different game modes in which players can demonstrate their strategic skills. Rookie and Practice modes are perfect for beginners, the former of which pairs exclusively new players in 1v1 matches, while the latter will pit them against AI so fighters can try out new decks before utilizing them in real combat. Once they've got a handle on things, players can take their decks to Ranked mode to climb the leaderboard and earn rewards. Skirmish and Tournament modes are also planned for the future, adding even more ways for players to compete.

Parallel Sets Itself Apart With Unique Mechanics

When compared to some of the most popular digital card-based games on the market, Parallel offers fresh features that help set it apart. Players will choose both one of the five Parallels and one of three Paragons when creating a deck, with each Parallel faction possessing unique mechanics and Paragons offering various passive abilities during battle. The game also bucks traditional mana trends, utilizing a Power Bank system that allows players set the tempo by choosing cards to bank which in turn provide them with energy.

In a market that's saturated with high-quality deckbuilding games, it's important for any new entrants to set themselves apart from the group. With an in-depth sci-fi narrative, unique mechanics that encourage strategy, and a myriad of modes to engage with, Parallel certainly manages to achieve this distinction. Players will be able to see everything Parallel has to offer when early access launches at the end of this month.
