Summary

  • Obtaining the desired 5-star weapon from the weapons banner is a rare occurrence due to low odds and a secondary dispute against another featured weapon.
  • Getting the perfect stats and sub-stats on an Artifact piece is a rare and difficult feat due to randomization and a lack of mechanics to obtain ideal items.
  • Getting the correct Talent materials from weekly boss fights is rare, with a limited number of attempts per week and the possibility of not getting the desired drop. Alleviating bad luck with Dream Solvent can help.

There are a few rare things that can happen in Genshin Impact despite the fact that the game mostly relies on a player’s level of dedication and some luck with the RNG (random number generator) systems. As a live-service gacha game, the action RPG by HoYoverse constantly receives new updates that add more content for players to explore in its open world. With this frequent influx of playable content, players also get new challenges to delve into, some of which can be considered a worthwhile time investment – such as new Artifact Domains.

The popular F2P (free-to-play) title lacks the many secret and rare things in Red Dead Redemption 2, for instance, but there are still rare occurrences in Genshin Impact. They are not rare events and creatures found in the open-world map, as Genshin Impact tends to be much more straightforward for farming purposes. Most of these rare instances involve how players approach their general gameplay, while others are strictly related to how the title’s odds are nudged away from the player’s benefits.

5 Pull The Correct 5-Star Weapon From The Weapons Banner

Genshin Impact's Aqua Simulacra to the left and Staff Of Homa to the right with a blue and pink energy flowing behind them, and a blurred-out Liyue landscape in the background.

One of the rarest things that can happen in Genshin Impact is pulling for a 5-star weapon in the weapons banner and actually getting the desired item. Beating Genshin Impact’s banner odds is already a hard endeavor, but beating it in the weapons banner is all the more difficult. This is because a guaranteed 5-star drop comes with every 80 pulls, so the hard pity is not all that much better than that of the regular character banner. In addition to that, players have to beat the 50/50 odds of getting a featured weapon from the banner or a 5-star drop from the standard banner loot pool.

This is the same case with character pulls. What makes getting the correct weapon a rare event in Genshin Impact is that players have to through a secondary 50/50 dispute against the other featured 5-star weapon in the banner. Weapons banners, unlike character banners, feature two distinct 5-star weapons at the same time instead of only one. This makes the acquisition of the desired weapon all the harder – there is a special pity system that ensures the desired pull, but that may require up to 240 pulls, which is an absurd number of pulls for F2P players.

4 Farm Artifact Pieces With The Best Stats & Sub-Stats

Genshin Impact's Traveler stands in front of a domain with multiple artifact pieces surrounding her.

Another notable rare thing that can happen in Genshin Impact is running an Artifact Domain and getting a piece with the best stats and sub-stats for the character a player is farming for. The main stat and sub-stats for Artifacts are always randomized upon the drop, so it is impossible to know what will come. Genshin Impact has had a major Artifact problem for quite some time now, with very few mechanics that make it easier to get the desired item that is ideal for character builds.

Considering how hard it is to obtain a decent Artifact piece, it is easily one of the rarest things that can happen in Genshin Impact. The best Artifact pieces’ stats and sub-stats are very specific when it comes to optimizing builds, but obtaining them in only a few tries is nearly impossible. Pulling the correct piece with the ideal stats is a constant battle with the game’s RNG system. There are Artifact Lockboxes that can help with farming some pieces from specific sets, but newer (and better) Artifact sets are not included in the mechanic.

3 Get The Right Material From Weekly Boss Fights

Getting the correct and desired Talent materials from weekly boss fights is also one of the rarest things that can happen in Genshin Impact. It is not as punishing as farming Artifacts with great stats, but it may result in some frustration. Each boss in Genshin Impact tends to drop three different types of items, and the exact one a player needs for specific characters may simply not drop. In addition to that, there is a dire limitation to how many times a boss can be challenged per week, which may significantly extend the farming period for a single character depending on how unlucky players are with their drops.

Even if getting the correct materials within a few attempts may be considered one of the rarest things to happen in Genshin Impact, there is a somewhat satisfying method of countering bad luck. If players received some of the other unique items dropped from the boss, they can use Dream Solvent to transform it into the desired material. La Signora’s Ashen Heart, for instance, can be modified into a Molten Moment if players are farming for Raiden Shogun. It is not as effective as simply dropping the correct material, but it does alleviate some frustration from bad drops in the loot pool.

2 Have Enough Resources To Fully Upgrade A Character Without Extra Farming

Genshin Impact's Kazuha is ready to unleash his elemental sword from his sheath on the right. To the left are superimposed images of a Primogem, a Mora coin, and a Hero's Wit, with two beams of yellow light circuling the items. Blurred out in the background is an image of a landscape in Inazuma City.

Another rare thing that can happen in Genshin Impact is obtaining a new 5-star character and being able to upgrade them without the need for additional farming. Fully upgrading a 5-star character, from level 1 to 90, along with their Talents, is quite a time-consuming challenge, especially considering how many materials and how much Mora is required to do so. Even so, some players may simply have enough resources to do just that if they have been pre-farming and making the best use of their daily Resin.

This is mostly dependent on how much a player is dedicated to the game’s brutal farming systems and much less on luck, like banners or Artifact drops. Nevertheless, it is still a rare occasion in Genshin Impact, as a player’s Mora and materials are constantly used across various characters and even weapons. Having enough resources to immediately max out a hero without having to detour and farm for them is hardly seen.

1 Find All Oculi Without Oculus Resonance Stones

Finding all the Oculi in a region without the assistance of Oculus Resonance Stones can also be considered one of the rarest things to happen in Genshin Impact. Although most of the regional Oculi pop up in the player’s mini-map, it can be extremely challenging to find the last remaining ones. This is especially true for regions with hundreds of Oculi spread across a gigantic open-world map.

Oculi are often well hidden and occasionally locked behind puzzles, so it not only requires dedication to solving these problems but also being able to find them in the first place. The Oculus Resonance Stones are very useful items when players are searching for the last necessary Oculi to max out a regional Statue of the Seven, so finding all of them without this assistance is one of the rarest things that can happen in Genshin Impact.
