A One Piece actor spent years making subtle moves that helped her secure her role as Netflix's Nami. As an adaptation of a manga series that has been ongoing since 1997, Netflix's One Piece already has a devoted fanbase. The manga tells the story of Monkey D. Luffy as he and the Straw Hat Pirates attempt to find the One Piece that can crown Luffy as the King of the Pirates. One Piece has already been adapted into an animated series that spans over 1,000 episodes, but Netflix is set to release the first live-action One Piece depiction on August 31.

While the original source is unclear, Twitter user philazora uncovered a magazine entry that features actor Emily Rudd confessing how hard she worked to be cast in Netflix's One Piece. Check out the post below:

Having a lifelong love for One Piece, Rudd cut and dyed her hair to ensure that she would look exactly like Nami and filmed a video of her mimicking Nami's moves. The effort has been ongoing for years and eventually ended with Rudd being officially cast in Netflix's live-action One Piece. Her hard work truly paid off.

Rudd Worked Hard For A One Piece Role

For those unfamiliar with One Piece, it can be challenging to see why an actor would dedicate years of action in the hopes of being cast for one project. After all, Netflix's One Piece adaptation might have never come to light at all. Projects fail in Hollywood constantly, and it could have left Rudd's efforts to all be for naught. Of course, despite how challenging Rudd's years of effort must have been, a live-action One Piece role is more than worth the effort.

Rudd previously starred in relatively minor projects, including Hunters, Moonshot, and the Fear Street series. Joining the ensemble cast of one of Netflix's upcoming live-action anime productions is a massive step-up that can really bring Rudd into prominence. One Piece is set to promote a faithful portrayal of the manga and has the support of manga creator Eiichiro Oda. If it does respectfully reproduce the original material, it could very well earn massive love and support. That alone could propel Rudd and the rest of the cast into other, major Hollywood roles.

Another aspect that can make One Piece such a sought-after project is nostalgia. Given how long One Piece has been in development, members of the cast may very well have grown up with One Piece, and the 30-year-old Rudd is no different. Even before being cast, One Piece was Rudd's favorite manga. That she now has a role in Netflix's One Piece is a sign of her dedication to the series and her brilliant play to secure her spot as Nami.
