The official trailer for The Nun 2 has been unleashed. The horror movie, which is the ninth entry in The Conjuring Universe, is a sequel to 2018's The Nun. The first movie was set in 1952 and followed Father Burke (Demián Bichir), novitiate Sister Irene (Taissa Farmiga), and their guide Frenchie (Jonas Bloquet) as they investigated a secluded Romanian monastery that was haunted by a demonic nun (Bonnie Aarons). Aarons, Farmiga, and Bloquet will be returning in the sequel alongside new cast members Storm Reid, Anna Popplewell, and Katelyn Rose Downey.

Via Entertainment Tonight, Warner Bros. Pictures has released the first trailer for the movie ahead of the official The Nun 2 release date on September 8. Check it out below:

The trailer promises another eerie adventure after the demonic nun, Valak, resurfaces to torment the young students at a French boarding school. Sister Irene is forced to return to face the entity after it emerges from inside Frenchie, where it took refuge at the end of the previous movie when it was thought to have been defeated.

Everything the Nun 2 Trailer Reveals About the Movie

Sister Irene Investigating a Drawing of Valak in The Nun 2

The Nun 2 seems like a return to form for The Conjuring Universe. The trailer has revealed quite a few creative scares are in store in the new movie, including a creepy wall of magazines that flips open to a series of pages that reveal Valak's image. However, the trailer also hints at where the surviving characters from the original movie ended up in the intervening four years.

It is unclear exactly how much of the film will feature Frenchie, as he is not featured in much of the trailer. It's possible that he will die when Valak emerges, though the demon may continue to use him as a vessel in addition to appearing in nun form. As for Sister Irene, who has been living a life of seclusion at an Italian convent, the trailer shows that she may not have fully faced her trauma from the events of the first movie, something she will now be forced to do in order to save innocent souls.

The rest of The Nun 2 cast hasn't been given much screen time in this initial trailer, which mostly highlights the returning characters. So far, those characters are this movie's sole official connection to the Conjuring Universe at large. However, The Nun 2's setting as revealed in this trailer could potentially allow the movie to connect in some way to Annabelle: Creation, which is set around the same time and also features a gaggle of school-age children.
