There are many TV characters audiences love to hate and a show is not complete without them. TV shows tend to have a villainous character that are meant to be hated but sometimes a character is just hated by all audience members regardless of what they do. Whether it is annoying behavior, bad decisions, or their interactions with other characters, some TV characters become worse over time.

TV shows such as Modern Family and Friends cause characters to decline due to the sheer number of seasons and episodes. Successful TV shows can easily run too long and diminish character development or include random storylines that can completely change the audience’s perspective on a character. Even popular TV shows such as The Office US ran on too long and loved characters like Jim and Pam were slated for behaving in ways they would not in earlier episodes. However, some TV characters audiences love to hate right from the start.

10 Joffrey Baratheon (Game Of Thrones)

Jack Gleeson played the unlikable Joffrey Baratheon in Game of Thrones and his skills at portraying the spoiled Joffrey made everyone hate the character. Joffrey has a truly awful personality and his treatment of others, especially his ex-fiancée Sansa, makes him a major villain. Although Joffrey can cover his cruel nature with charm, his entitled upbringing and has no redeeming qualities. Joffrey’s sadistic personality is shown through his unnecessary punishments and makes it impossible for the audience not to hate him.

9 Ross Geller (Friends)

Ross Geller is a character who grew worse over time and developed into a character that audiences cannot help but find annoying. David Schwimmer’s character is undeniably hilarious and has many sweet moments but Ross and Rachel’s toxic relationshp in Friends showed a darker side to Ross. As the sitcom progressed, Ross became condescending, whiny, and selfish. Modern audiences have more of a problem with Ross as views on his behavior change, but regardless of the audience, everyone loves to hate Ross, particularly in the later seasons of Friends.

8 Piper Chapman (Orange Is The New Black)

It is rare that the main protagonist of a show is the character everyone loves to hate but Orange Is The New Black’s Piper Chapman fits the bill perfectly. Piper initially seems like a good person in a bad situation but as Orange Is The New Black progresses, Piper’s real personality is revealed. Piper is a very manipulative character which is shown by her relationship with Alex; although Piper does care for Alex and is protective of her at times, she manipulates and abandons her in her time of need.It didn't take long for OITNB fans to realize that Piper was unlikable, downright cruel and controlling.

7 Skyler White (Breaking Bad)

Skyler White is the wife of Walter, the main character in Breaking Bad, and she develops into quite a hateable character. Skyler always had a controlling personality from the start of Breaking Bad and did not consider Walt’s opinions. As Skyler becomes a bigger part of Walt’s business, her controlling nature becomes grating and incessant. Walt and Skyler have a terrible relationship and Skyler becomes an all-round annoying character. Skyler’s focus is on keeping the family together but her actions to do so make her a terrible person, and a frustrating character.

6 Rachel Berry (Glee)

Rachel Berry is another character who, while not technically a villain, has a personality that makes her really unlikable. Glee has a variety of characters with a range of personalities and Rachel is just too easy to dislike. Rachel does develop over time to become a nicer person, but, overall, she is very self-centered and believes she deserves more than her peers. Rachel does work hard for her achievements, but her ego and her expectations of being favored make it a lot harder to acknowledge them. Rachel is a Glee staple, but her personality makes her the most hated one too.

5 Cam Tucker (Modern Family)

Cam Tucker is not a Modern Family character people initially hated, but as time has passed and audiences have re-watched, his more annoying character traits and behaviors have been pointed out. There is no doubt Cam is a loving husband and father, and he never fails to provide comedy. The hate for Cam derives from his toxic behaviors that impact Mitch. As Mitch is the more reserved of the two, Cam becomes selfish and controlling of Mitch which audiences have started to hate.

4 Dwight Schrute (The Office)

Dwight is arguably one of the funniest characters from The Office and he does not even know it. He is extremely different to his colleagues which is not a bad thing, and he does show a more emotional side later on in The Office. Sadly, the one thing that stops viewers being drawn to him is his unlikable personality. Dwight’s constant sucking up to Michael, snitching on his colleagues, and superiority complex makes him very annoying. He does not always treat his colleagues in a good way either and Dwight has a surface level personality that makes people hate him.

3 Sheldon Cooper (The Big Bang Theory)

Sheldon Cooper is another TV character who is a victim of bad development. Sheldon’s nerdy demeanor and socially awkward personality started off as endearing and humorous. However, as The Big Bang Theory progressed, Sheldon’s charms turned annoying and repetitive. Sheldon is known for his condescending nature but The Big Bang Theory made this character aspect too prominent. Sheldon is relatively funny when he is socially awkward but, overall, he just becomes plain annoying.

2 John Kreese (Cobra Kai)

Although John Kreese's role in the Karate Kid was one-dimensional, he has eventually become a classic villain that everyone loves to hate. Since joining Cobra Kai, the writers have massively developed his character and fleshed out his character background to make him more complex. While viewers have come to understand why John acts the way he does (especially since he has a lot of unresolved trauma), fans do often have a difficult time overlooking his past behavior as John seems to take it out of the kids by manipulating and pushing his “no mercy” agenda on them. He's definitely one of the more interesting villains on that show.

1 Andrea (The Walking Dead)

The reasons why audiences hated Andrea in The Walking Dead so much go beyond just her character's storylines and behaviors. Andrea is self-centered and hardened which can come across as cold. Her stubborn and opinionated nature makes her hard to take to and easy to dislike. However, Andrea’s TV character differs a lot from the comic books. A huge arc change made fans annoyed and unable to connect with Andrea, and the TV show pushing for the relationship with The Governor made it worse. The Walking Dead changed Andrea too much and made her a TV character everybody loves to hate.
