Warning! Contains spoilers for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant MayhemTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem has revitalized the iconic franchise, and TMNT Mutant Mayhem 2 is already in development. Studio Paramount has struggled to keep a movie series of the iconic turtles successful in the 21st Century. The fully CGI TMNT was released in 2007 to mostly negative reviews, and it was followed by a live-action reboot in 2014 and a sequel in 2016, although neither were box office hits. Now, the franchise has been rebooted once again with Mutant Mayhem, only this time it's unlike anything that came before it, looking instead to bring the TMNT magic and charm that's kept the franchise successful on the small screen to a stylized animated feature-length adventure — and Paramount is so confident in it that TMNT Mutant Mayhem 2 is already in the works.

Paramount has given Michelangelo, Donatello, Leonardo, and Raphael the modern refresh they deserve, taking the elements that make the various Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show so popular and giving them a blockbuster polish without sacrificing the emotional essence. Once again in CGI form, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is based on a TMNT screenplay co-written by actor Seth Rogen, a self-proclaimed fan of the property. TMNT Mutant Mayhem's soundtrack is even scored by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, who are Academy Award-winning composers. Most interestingly, the turtles are voiced by teenage actors who are complete unknowns, which makes the TMNT movie feel youthful, something that the previous films lacked. The movie is the start of a new series for TMNT too, so questions about the Ninja Turtle's future in Mutant Mayhem 2 are already arising.

How Mutant Mayhem Set Up A Sequel

Cynthia in the TCRI lab in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem

While Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem tells a great story, it also plants a lot of seeds for the sequel, the most notable of which is the TMNT: Mutant Mayhem post-credits scene. The TMNT: Mutant Mayhem post-credits scene sees Cynthia watching Leo and April's broadcast, and Cynthia is more confident than ever that she can find the turtles. Cynthia is in the TCRI lab at the time, which sees a fly in a container, hinting at the possibility of either an unmuted Superfly or a mutated Baxter Stockman.

In another part of the post-credits scene, Cynthia calls upon another villain from the Ninja's rogues gallery, Shredder, the most iconic villain in the franchise. Cynthia seeks Shredder's help to find and capture the titular turtles, as she literally states, "Bring me the Shredder." The movie then cuts to Shredder standing outside New York. Though only the back of Shredder's armor can be seen, the shot sets up an antagonist that's a much bigger threat, and, most likely, Shredder will be TMNT: Mutant Mayhem 2's main villain.

Ultimately, Cynthia wants to get her hands on Baxter's mutagen, and with the help of Shredder, she just might get it. It still isn't totally clear what Cynthia's intentions are but the movie hints at the villain attempting to create super-soldiers for Kraang. Either way, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem ending sets up a sequel that'll be way more ambitious than the first movie and one that will feature way more villains and higher stakes.

TMNT Mutant Mayhem 2 Story

The Turtle Tots in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem

Based on how Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem set up the sequel, a lot of the TMNT Mutant Mayhem 2 story is obvious, though there are a few gaps. It's clear that the sequel's villain will be Shredder, who will work closely with Cynthia and the TCRI to capture the ninja turtles. However, Shredder's motivation for working with the TCRI still isn't clear. Shredder's motivation could just be power and money, but it could be something more personal given that he and Splinter have history. TMNT: Mutant Mayhem 2 will likely also cast a light on the truth about Cynthia's identity and what her ultimate goal is.

There have also been discussions about a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles spinoff movie about the series' villains. The news was announced during Paramount's Investors Event in 2022, but there has been little information about it since. It isn't clear if it'll be set in the same world as the Seth Rogen-developed movie or if it'll be something entirely different. However, given that Paramount is seemingly fully invested in the Seth Rogen-developed franchise, the villain spinoff movie will likely be based in the Mutant Mayhem world. If that's the case, TMNT Mutant Mayhem 2 could be some kind of crossover event that features stories from the villains' standalone films.
