The cast of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem got to record their scenes together, which greatly improved the film's humor and the chemistry between the Turtles. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem arrived in theaters on August 2 and serves as a reboot of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film series. The film recreates the iconic Turtles in a unique new animation style and sees them turning to heroism in hopes of earning acceptance. One aspect of the film that has been singled out for praise is the voice acting, and it seems one particular technique helped elevate the vocal performances.

In an interview with IGN, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem's writer and producer, Seth Rogen, revealed that the cast recorded their scenes together and that it helped improve the film.

In animation, it is common for voice actors to work and record alone. However, Rogen recorded with Billy Eichner in The Lion King and felt the work they did together was so much funnier than if they'd recorded separately. Hence, the Turtles' voice actors recorded together and improvised nearly every scene, which resulted in some great jokes and onscreen chemistry. Check out Rogen's statement below:

"I've been in so many animated movies, and Lion King, I'm good friends with Jon Favreau, and I remember him saying, like, 'I want to have, especially the stuff with me and Billy [Eichner], a very naturalistic tone,' and so we recorded all of our stuff together, and it was the first time I'd ever done that. And I was like, 'Whoa, this is like so much funnier and so much more alive.' And I was like if we can do it with the two of us, what if we could do it with the four of them?

"And then we brought it even further where we essentially had them improvise every scene. And we would create like a baseline of them just all kind of screaming at each other and talking over each other, and then we would, like, write jokes that were interjected into the chaos of them just all kind of yelling at each other."

Who Voices The Turtles In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem?

tmnt mutant mayhem ending explained-1

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem has an impressive voice cast, including several big names like Jackie Chan, Maya Rudolph, Ice Cube, and Giancarlo Esposito. However, most of the actors who voiced the Turtles are relative newcomers to Hollywood, making their performances even more impressive. The voice actors of the Turtles are Micah Abbey as Donatello, Shamon Brown, Jr. as Michelangelo, Nicolas Cantu as Leonardo, and Brady Noon as Raphael.

Noon has the most experience under his belt, as he did voice acting for Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules before Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. He also appeared in the critically acclaimed Boardwalk Empire from 2010-2013 as Thomas Darmody. Cantu has been voice acting since 2016 in projects such as Sofia the First and Skull Island. He also had minor roles in The Fabelmans and The Good Place. Meanwhile, Abbey is a rising young star, best known for having appeared in Nickelodeon's Cousins for Life alongside Dallas Dupree Young for one season.

Brown also got his start on the small screen, having starred in the TV series The Chi since 2018. These four talented young actors are expected to return for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem's sequel, too. Hopefully, they will be allowed to record together again to create that naturalistic feel to the film. Nothing could capture the bond and camaraderie between the turtles in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem quite like having four actual teens working and interacting with one another in real life.
