A brand-new clip from Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 has teased a new version of the USS Voyager and the return of The Doctor (Robert Picardo). Star Trek: Prodigy is the franchise's first show to be geared toward younger audiences, and premiered on Paramount+ in 2021 to a positive reception from critics and viewers alike. Unfortunately, Paramount canceled Prodigy in June 2023, removing it from the streaming service soon after. Since the series' cancelation, an outpouring of support from fans had led to hopes of Prodigy being picked up by a different streaming service, especially given that season 2 of the show was nearly completed.

Screen Rant was present at the Star Trek: Prodigy pannel at STLV: 57-Year Mission, where executive producers Kevin and Dan Hageman showed a 4-minute clip of Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 (via startrek.com). Here's a description of the clip:

Prodigy's main cast of five kid characters reunite and discuss the work they've been doing in order to get into Starfleet Academy. A shuttle lands to pick the kids up, but instead of Admiral Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) appearing to greet them, Star Trek: Voyager's Doctor steps out. He introduces himself to the group, and says he is sure they'll come to love him as much as they loved their former Hologram Janeway on the Protostar. The kids seem skeptical of this, and toss The Doctor their bags as they board the shuttle, prompting him to say "I'm a doctor, not a butler." The Doctor takes the kids to their new ship: The USS Voyager-A, explaining on the way that most of Starfleet is working on the Romulan evacuation efforts, so Admiral Janeway volunteered to Captain the mission into the new wormhole created by the destruction of the Protostar. The mission is to go to Solum 52 years in the future to find Captain Chakotay (Robert Beltran) and his crew.

The reveal of the Voyager-A and The Doctor in Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 is an extremely exciting update for the show, especially after its sudden cancelation. The release of the clip will likely drum up even more excitement and energy behind the fan-led movement to save Prodigy and get it added to another streaming service.

Star Trek: Prodigy Season 2 Updates From STLV

Along with the clip, the Star Trek: Prodigy panel at STLV: 57-Year Mission revealed more exciting news about season 2, including the fact that the show plans to draw from all the legacy Star Trek series for its storyline. Prodigy is set in the 2280s, an era in the franchise's timeline that is rife for including big-name legacy Star Trek characters from a number of classic shows. Prodigy season 2 apparently aims to connect the dots between the legacy shows set in the era and create exciting new canon from those connections. The show is already off to a great start by reintroducing such popular characters as Admiral Janeway and The Doctor.

Unfortunately, the Hagemans did reveal that they have not yet found a new home for Star Trek: Prodigy after its complete removal from Paramount+. However, the show's team is apparently in "active talks" with services who may be able to pick it up for season 2. According to the Hagemans, they are extremely confident that Star Trek: Prodigy will find a new home and that season 2 will be released in its entirety.
