Seven weapons tied to Thor’s arsenal of the Marvel Universe are still missing from the MCU. Over the years, Marvel Studios has incorporated a number of important concepts from Thor comics to the MCU, including key allies and enemies, dimensions, locations, and of course, the character’s weapons. Two in particular have even fueled entire storylines.

Obviously, none are more crucial to the MCU's Thor franchise than Mjolnir, the God of Thunder’s signature hammer. Even after its destruction in Thor: Ragnarok, Marvel continued to emphasize its significance and ultimately restored it. But during the time it was off the table, Marvel proved that Thor could fight without by giving him a new hammer – Stormbreaker. Like the MCU character, Marvel Comics’ Thor has also been known to wield other weapons. The difference, though, is that he’s had even more alternatives to Mjolnir. Here’s seven weapons from Thor’s comics the MCU has yet to use.

7 Crusher Is Modelled After Mjolnir And Almost As Strong

During the 1990s, Loki helped a human named Red Norvell procure magical items so that he could defeat Thor and take his place. Years after he sacrificed himself to save Asgard, Thor’s human replacement was resurrected and given his own hammer. Also known as War-Hammer, Crusher was designed as a duplicate of Mjolnir, but isn’t quite as powerful as the original. Given that both it and Red Norvell only had a minor presence in Marvel Comics, there’s not much of an expectation for either to show up in the MCU.

6 Lightbringer Could Appear In Secret Wars

One Thor weapon that could make its way into the MCU is Lightbringer. In 2016’s A-Force comic, Marvel introduced a version of Dazzler who held the title of Thor in her own universe. Rather than Mjolnir, she wielded a hammer called Lightbringer. Since it would make sense for a movie like Avengers: Secret Wars to utilize multiversal versions of existing MCU characters, a live-action take on A-Force's Alison Blaire (and Lightbringer) isn’t out of the question.

5 Thor Weilded Jarnbjorn While He Was Unworthy To Lift Mjolnir

In the 2010s, Thor memorably lost his worthiness after a mysterious encounter with Nick Fury. As a result, Thor was unable to continue using Mjolnir in battle. Forced to rely on other options, Thor decided to fall back on another weapon he once carried with him into battle. Centuries ago when Thor had yet to become worthy, he acquired a powerful Asgardian axe. Originally wielded by a member of the Valkyries, Jarnbjorn was taken up by Thor as he embarked on a number of adventures at this time. Of course, this period didn’t last, as Thor eventually did become worthy and subsequently retired Jarnbjorn.

Having lost his worthiness in the modern era, Thor deemed it necessary to fight with Jarnbjorn once more. It wasn’t a perfect substitute for Mjolnir, but as an axe made with Asgardian metal, it was strong enough to get him through some challenging fights in Marvel Comics. As for the chances of the MCU’s Thor ever using it, the fact that he didn’t consider finding it when Mjolnir was destroyed indicates that it never existed in the MCU timeline.

4 Thunderstrike Is A Powerful Asgardian Mace

Marvel made a huge change to the status quo for Thor when it introduced Eric Masterson, a normal human who worked alongside his friend Sigurd, who was secretly Thor in disguise. After becoming getting swept into cosmic battles and left critically injured due to his proximity to Thor, Eric and Thor were merged into one by Odin. For a time, Eric Masterson headlined Thor’s comic and even had his place on the Avengers roster. When Thor returned and regained his hammer, Odin ordered the construction of a mace called Thunderstrike, thus allowing Eric to continue in his capacity as a superhero.

Like Mjolnir itself, Thunderstrike is an uru weapon that carries several magical enchantments. It could be an effective weapon for any character if introduced into the MCU. But, with Odin dead and there being no apparent plans to bring in Eric Masterson, there’s little hope for Thunderstrike to make its debut anytime soon.

3 Stormcaster Is A Deceptive Gift From Loki

In an 1980s X-Men comic, Marvel toyed with the idea of Storm taking her powers to the next level and becoming a full-fledged Goddess of Thunder. Marvel set this up by having Loki give Storm an enchanted hammer known as Stormcaster. But as Storm soon discerned for herself, she was just a pawn in a larger scheme by Loki. She gave up the hammer, but has since wielded it in battle in other stories. The MCU taking this direction with Earth-616’s Storm is unlikely, but were Marvel to use variants of the X-Men in Avengers: Secret Wars, a version of Storm who becomes Thor could theoretically appear.

2 Tarene's Hammer Gives Thor Girl The Power Of Lightning

Introduced in Thor #22 in 2000, Thor Girl a.k.a. Tarene is an extraterrestrial being who took the form of an Asgardian goddess and emerged as an ally to Thor. During her adventures in the Marvel Universe, she carried with her a magical hammer that granted her lightning abilities similar to Thor’s. And like most Mjolnir equivalents, Tarene’s hammer – which has no known name in Marvel Comics - would return to the wielder after being thrown. Thor Girl isn’t currently a strong candidate for inclusion in the MCU, but Marvel’s growing emphasis on variants makes the possibility of Tarene and her hammer later joining the MCU worth considering.

1 Stormbreaker Is Completely Different In Marvel Comics

The MCU admittedly has a Stormbreaker, but the one that exists in the MCU is entirely different from the weapon of the same name in Marvel Comics. Firstly, the comics’ Stormbreaker is a hammer like Mjolnir, whereas the MCU version is an axe. Both are made of uru, but their origins and place in their respective universes differ greatly. In the comic books, Stormbreaker wasn’t made for Thor’s hands, nor did it have any connection to Groot. Its construction was ordered by Odin after Thor lost a duel to Beta Ray Bill, an alien warrior with designs on Mjolnir.

Beta Ray Bill originally sought to acquire Mjolnir, but changed his mind about taking a weapon that was rightfully Thor’s. This culminated in the creation of Stormbreaker and in turn, Beta Ray Bill establishing himself as a Thor-like hero in the cosmic side of the Marvel Universe. Beta Ray Bill’s existence has been alluded to in the MCU, but has yet to be fully introduced. If he ever appears, his debut could come complete with his trademark hammer from the comics. But since “Stormbreaker” is already taken, chances are it would have a different name.
