Darth Vader is one of the most terrifying figures in in all of pop culture, the Star Wars villain's armor is a major reason for his menacing reputation. However, a Star Wars comic revealed what the Sith Lord's truest form looked like... and it's even scarier than fans will believe.

Thanks to the horrific injuries Vader suffered in his battle with Obi-Wan Kenobi on Mustafar, he was forced to wear a special black armor that kept him alive and allowed him to regain mobility despite losing all of his limbs in the fiery fight. The suit reinforces his entire body while allowing him to breathe (albeit in a sinister, heavy way). It also allows Vader to temporarily take off his helmet when in his meditation chamber. In a Star Wars comic, readers got the chance to view Vader's brief state of meditation and how the Force viewed him. And it's not pretty.

Darth Vaders Body in The Force

In Star Wars: Darth Vader #8 by Charles Soule, Giuseppe Camuncoli, Daniele Orlandini, David Curiel, and VC's Joe Caramagna, readers are shown what Darth Vader looks like to the Force when he enters his meditation.

Darth Vader's Force Form Symbolizes His Light & Dark War

In the scene, Vader, who's still adjusting to his armor while meditating on Coruscant, is shown floating among a lightning storm over dark waters. Vader is grotesque, with bloody tendrils covering his body, while his missing limbs are represented in white. Amidst the darkness, bright Force butterflies can be seen, showing the little humanity Vader has left. It's Vader in his darkest form. In a later issue, Star Wars #12, Vader is shown meditating again, and it's even more grizzly, as the butterflies are seen disappearing and his tendrils expand as he becomes more in tune with the dark side.

Seeing Vader's purest form is equal parts cool and terrifying. He's been covered in darkness and readers see how his remaining humanity is being overwhelmed by the storm brewing inside. It's an extremely revealing moment for the galaxy's biggest villain. It's Darth Vader's true nature personified - and one of the scariest images that have ever appeared in Star Wars canon. On the inside, Darth Vader is even scarier, which is saying something.
