A breathtaking promo for Ahsoka pays tribute to the masters and apprentices throughout Star Wars, implying that Sabine Wren is indeed the Jedi Padawan of Ahsoka Tano. The official Ahsoka trailer shocked audiences with the reveal that Wren trained under Ahsoka during the time after the events of Star Wars Rebels, suggesting that Sabine was Force-sensitive all along. Ahsoka cut that training short, however, walking away from her apprentice just as she had done to her master, Anakin Skywalker, several years prior.

The Ahsoka promo "Masters and Apprentices" released on the Star Wars YouTube channel highlights iconic duos throughout the franchise, led with Yoda's quote that "always two, there are." What follows is a montage of teachers and their students sharing moments of bonding, including Anakin and Obi-Wan's training in Obi-Wan Kenobi, Luke Skywalker teaching Grogu in The Book of Boba Fett, and even Darth Vader and the Emperor's dark scheming in The Empire Strikes Back. The duos of Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati and Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren are heavily featured at the end, the two prominent relationships that will drive Ahsoka.

The History Of Star Wars Has Many Implications For Ahsoka

Ahsoka and Anakin Lightsaber Poses In Star Wars

In addition to being perhaps the best tribute to teachers and students Star Wars has ever done, the Ahsoka promo establishes a number of implications for the show. With the exception of Vader and Palpatine, every duo shown is of Jedi Masters and their Padawans (and though Baylan was a Jedi who survived Order 66, he and Shin don't consider themselves Jedi, either). It was assumed that the Ahsoka trailer was lying about Sabine's Jedi training, but with every other character in the promo able to wield the Force, there's now further evidence that he Mandalorian warrior can, as well.

For the first time, Star Wars officially showcased Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka in live-action together, albeit in different shots. Given the prominence of Anakin's name in Ahsoka marketing and the strong bond the titular heroine shared with her master, an appearance of Anakin's Force ghost continues to grow likelier. Ahsoka's journey will be just as much about overcoming the failings of her past with her master as it will be charting the future with her apprentice, a theme that will be prominent for multiple relationships in Ahsoka.

Episodes 1 and 2 of Ahsoka release Wednesday, August 23 on Disney+.
