The Super-Skrull will return. Marvel's Secret Invasion introduced a new superpower to the franchise, with Emilia Clarke's G'iah confirmed as the most powerful hero in MCU history. Now, Secret Invasion director Ali Selim has discussed the future of the Skrull superhero, talking about her new MCU role being a "launching point" for a so-far unannounced future story.

With Secret Invasion's ending teaming G'iah up with Olivia Colman's Sonya Falsworth in a mutually beneficial partnership that will see the over-powered hero protecting Earth, it could be expected that Marvel has plans to either make Secret Invasion season 2 or to tell G'iah's story separately. Selim spoke to Insider about what could come next:

I think what happens outside the confines of the walls of these six episodes is really a question for Marvel. I don't know where it's gonna go. It would be exciting if it went somewhere because those are two incredible actors and two incredibly strong, interesting women to follow.

At the same time, I do think that that pact they made, it could be a launching point for their characters and I think it's also a great resolution for this story. So I'm satisfied with it as an ending. And if it continues on in some way, I can't imagine anything better.

While Selim is absolutely right that the prospect of G'iah and Falsworth teaming up for further adventures is an exciting prospect, it sounds like the director doesn't know whether the ending was tangibly setting anything up. Marvel Studios projects do tend to include future-baiting teases like this - a fact that has become a meme since G'iah's big reveal - but the hint that there's nothing current on the planning board is somewhat disappointing. That rings particularly true since Selim has told ScreenRant of the two mandatory conditions he had to include in Secret Invasion's ending:

I was given some requirements for the next movie. You have to put Nick Fury up in space. For the next beat, you have to make sure that Rhodey's legs don't work for Armor Wars.

The MCU Can't Forget G'iah (Because She's Too Powerful)

The reality for Marvel is that it's impossible for G'iah to simply disappear after her evolution at the end of Secret Invasion; there are simply too many questions left unanswered. While Secret Invasion 2 may not be likely thanks to Nick Fury effectively being removed from the Earth-bound Skrull story, G'iah is simply too powerful for this to be the end. The pact between Olivia Colman and G'iah, which in part depends on the introduction of Skrull hunters and vigilantes empowered by the reveal of their presence on Earth, is not the satisfying ending Selim's comments seem to suggest. In truth, the idea of the Skrulls being uncovered and then hunted is where Secret Invasion should have started. It's not enough to hand wave that plot by suggesting Falsworth would simply stop it from happening.

Even without a clear pathway to G'iah's return (other than a surprise appearance in The Marvels), Marvel's creative teams should be looking at how to bring G'iah and the Skrull hunt into Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts in order to set up some sense of closure. The alternative would be to have G'iah's incredible powers left hanging around unresolved, which should be avoided, since she's basically a cheat code. The MCU end up with another Giant Hand Poking Out Of The Ocean problem, and a beefed up "where are the Avengers/why doesn't Captain Marvel simply appear and fix everything" problem. If Secret Invasion can introduce something this big, Marvel has to have the fortitude to deliver on it.
