Jeffrey Wright will provide the voice of Bruce Wayne in Batman: The Audio Adventures, an upcoming scripted podcast series developed by HBO Max. Wright is already part of the DC universe, set to appear as Commissioner Jim Gordon in The Batman, directed by Matt Reeves and starring Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader. The podcast takes the Dark Knight into comedic territory and is written and directed by Dennis McNicholas, who has long written for Saturday Night Live. McNicholas and Angela Petrella will produce along with executive producer Jon Berg, who has been behind Justice League, Aquaman, and Wonder Woman.

It will be produced by Warner Bros.'s Blue Ribbon Content and is separate from the recent multi-year agreement between Warners Bros., DC, and Spotify to develop podcast series about characters in DC Comics, such as Batman Unburied, created by David Goyer.  Batman: The Audio Adventures will premiere on HBO Max later in the year.

Per THR, Wright will be voicing the title character in the multi-episode podcast. He will be joined by a slew of SNL alum including McNicholas, Seth Meyers, Melissa Villaseñor, Fred Armisen, Jason Sudeikis, and Kenan Thompson. John Leguizamo, Brooke Shields, and Brent Spiner will also be part of the cast, although it is not yet known outside of Wright what characters from the DC universe the actors will be portraying.

Wright is more known for his dramatic roles such as Boardwalk Empire, the James Bond franchise starring Daniel Craig, and his Emmy-winning character in Angels in America, which he reprised from the Broadway play. He currently stars as Bernard Lowe in the HBO science-fiction series Westworld, which has been renewed for a fourth season. Wright headlining a project in the comedy genre is a wonderful switch in range and shows why he is one of the most talented actors in the business. Wright is also no stranger to the voice-over industry and superhero series, as he will be voicing The Watcher in Marvel's upcoming animated anthology series What If...?.

Aside from the cast list, there's very little additional information about Batman: The Audio Adventures. But a comedic take on the world's greatest detective is a significantly different approach to telling the superhero's journey. Wright being able to portray a number of characters, whether through his voice or on-screen, is a great opportunity to showcase his abundant talents and cement his place in the superhero genre, regardless of the medium or the style. Wright's casting provides a riveting take on Batman and it will be interesting to listen to what he does with it.
