Warning! Contains spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 4!Gojo may ostensibly be a hero in Jujutsu Kaisen, but an incredibly dark moment from his past shows that he isn't as purely good as he may seem. This has been hinted at before in the series, especially in previous episodes of the Gojo's Past arc, so this revelation doesn't come out of nowhere. But the latest episode of the anime still makes the extreme acts that Gojo is willing to perform very shocking.

In the fourth episode of Jujutsu Kaisen's second season, Gojo recovers the body of Riko from the Time Vessel Association. As he does so, the members of this cultish organization creepily applaud him with blank smiles on their faces. Given their apparent joy at a brutal tragedy, Gojo asks his friend Geto whether the two of them should kill all the followers. Geto, who fans know will eventually become Jujutsu Kaisen's main villain, actually talks Gojo out of murdering the entire cult, saying that the followers still left in the building aren't actually the ones who engineered Riko's assassination. While Gojo didn't actually kill the Time Vessel Association members, the fact that he almost did shows why he is Jujutsu Kaisen's darkest hero.

Gojo's Willingness to Kill Makes Him Jujutsu Kaisen's Darkest Hero

Gojo hides this darkness behind a joking persona in the present day, which can make his darkness somewhat difficult to see in the present day. But it can be seen in the nonchalant way he treats much of the violent threats he encounters. It also manifests in the cruel prank he has Yuji play on Nobara and Megumi when he reveals he is still alive. Gojo is only granted the leeway to behave this way due to the immense power of his Limitless Cursed Technique, which makes him one of the most powerful sorcerers alive. It is precisely this power that leads to his darkest quote in the Gojo's Past Arc.

After he awakened the full extent of his powers against Toji, Gojo experienced a state of ecstasy followed by an apathetic comedown. This actually makes it so that he doesn't actually care whether he kills the Time Vessel Association members or not, which is why he is willing to commit mass murder. Once someone has reached Gojo's level of power and self-importance, the lives of the masses lose some degree of value. While luckily Gojo's actions generally align with those of the good guys, this moment shows that if the whim ever struck him he could easily commit heinous acts without being bothered by them.

Jujutsu Kaisen May Be Hinting That Gojo Could Turn Evil

Hopefully, this dark glimpse of Gojo isn't foreshadowing a potential villain turn for the character further down the line. This quote shows how horrifying he could be if he truly wanted to be and given how powerful he is, there are few other sorcerers who could stop him. Even if Gojo doesn't turn evil, this moment is still a good reminder that he is fundamentally different from Jujutsu Kaisen's other heroes, being much darker.
