The New My Hero Academia Movie Will Take Place During The Series' Darkest Time

According to Horikoshi's words, the fourth movie of the franchise will take place after the war shown in Season 6 of the anime, the Paranormal Liberation War, meaning its setting will be a "collapsed society" that is trying to recover from the huge blows suffered at the hands of the League of Villains and All For One. Fans of the manga and the anime will surely remember the bleak tones of those stories, and how Deku's sense of guilt almost led to the young hero's self-destruction during his stint as a desperate vigilante.

There is a chance that "Dark Deku" will appear in the movie, and fans are surely hyped about that, but it's unlikely, considering how that storyline wrapped up brilliantly in the emotional finale of Season 6 of My Hero Academia. It's more possible that this new movie will show parts of the story that were left untold by the manga and anime, but it will also be a stand-alone product, perfectly enjoyable on its own, like the three that preceded it.
