What Happened in Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2, Episode #4?

Gojo kills Toji

After Toji killed Riko, Geto fought the so-called sorcerer killer in an intense battle. Despite using some of his most powerful curses, Geto was unable to give Toji a real challenge, as the latter man’s overwhelming physical abilities allowed him to deal with everything the young sorcerer threw at him. After leaving Geto bleeding out on the ground, Toji brought Riko’s body to the people who hired him in the Time Vessel Association, claiming his reward. Gojo however recovered from the beating Toji gave him, and, awakened to the full extent of his powers, Gojo killed Toji with a Hollow Purple blast and then recovered Riko’s body.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2, Episode #5 Will Show How Riko’s Death Affects Gojo and Geto

Gojo with Riko's body in Jujutsu Kaisen

Gojo and Geto have already been greatly affected by Riko’s death, but episode #5 will likely explore this further. With Gojo’s powers now fully awakened, he can now become the near omnipotent figure that he appeared to be in the first season. In addition, after failing to protect Riko, he may try to take on more and more responsibility for the destruction of dangerous cursed spirits. Conversely, the once heroic Geto will likely start becoming the villain he is in Jujutsu Kaisen 0 and the first season. While he hasn’t reached that point in episode #4 since he didn’t want Gojo to kill the Time Vessel Association members, with more time to brood on Riko’s death he will likely change his ways.

Beyond the psychological ramifications of Riko’s death, episode 5 will likely also deal with the effect of the Star Plasma Vessel’s death of Jujutsu Society. Tengen is a major pillar of the Jujutsu World, providing the barriers for Jujutsu High, and many major sorcerers will likely wonder how the lack of his merger will affect things going forward. This may even have implications for the present-day events of the series as the negative consequences of this could have a delayed reaction. Although exploring all this will likely make episode 5 slower than the previous two, given Jujutsu Kaisen’s general level of quality this season, it will still likely be superb.

Fans should look out for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 episode #5 when it premieres on Crunchyroll on August 3, 2023.
