Netflix fans are no strangers to having their favorite shows removed from the global streaming platform, and it seems like not even critically-acclaimed anime such as Erased and The Promised Neverland are safe. In addition to a slew of popular English titles, these popular anime hits are going to be leaving the platform shortly.

According to ComicBook.com, on September 1st, several shows and movies will be leaving Netflix's streaming platform - including popular suspense and horror anime shows Erased and The Promised Neverland. Filled with shocking events and tense situations, these shows were immensely popular with anime fans so it is unfortunate that they will be leaving Netflix shortly.

Netflix Has Not Renewed Its License For Erased and The Promised Neverland

September 1st marks the day that more beloved shows will be departing Netflix, such as Blue Exorcist, the InuYasha movies, and Fate/Grand Order - First Order. Included in this list are Erased and The Promise Neverland, a murder suspense and a dark fantasy thriller respectively. Rating highly with anime fans, both shows were fantastic additions to Netflix's lineup and made streaming these popular shows easy and accessible. The impact that Netflix has on exposure for anime cannot be understated and shows streamed on the platform have been many's first introduction to anime. Sadly though, the license to continue carrying these specific titles was not renewed so it looks like they will be joining the long list of 'Netflix Formers'.

These two shows are among the top in terms of suspense and horror in anime. Erased follows Satoru Fujinuma after he's sent back 18 years in time where he tries to prevent the death of a former classmate. Every episode is packed with tension and the promise of a mental chess game between 11-year-old Satoru and the mystery murderer. The Promised Neverland tells the story of orphans Emma, Norman, and Ray after they discover the horrific truth of their orphanage and how they struggle to cope with their new reality. The very first episode dealt one of the best twists that many have seen in anime and truly set the bar for what kind of horror the main trio would be up against.

Cutting shows from their catalog because of license renewals and to make room for new titles is nothing new for Netflix, and certainly will not change anytime soon. Being a critically-acclaimed hit sadly makes no difference. But despite no longer being on Netflix, anime fans don't need to worry about whether they can watch Erased and The Promised Neverland as these titles are still available on Crunchyroll and Hulu with no plans for removal yet.
