Vegeta embracing his evil side again was one of Dragon Ball Super's most tantalizing prospects, which is why it's unfortunate that his actual brush with villainy felt much too random. However, a lighthearted moment in the anime not only foreshadowed Vegeta's embrace of his villainous ways later on, but subsequent scenes also seemed to suggest that the Saiyan Prince would likely succumb to his evil urges once again.

In episode #37 of Dragon Ball Super, Piccolo informs Goku, who had expressed confusion over why Vegeta trained Cabba from Universe Six, that Vegeta likely did so because he missed the kinship of Saiyans, to which Goku replies that he's a Saiyan, too. Piccolo answers by saying that Vegeta doesn't like Goku and then later laughs when Goku can't grasp what bothers Vegeta about him.

Vegeta's Resentment of Goku Set Up His Turn to Villainy

Piccolo implies Vegeta doesn't like Goku

This scene clearly foreshadowed what would later happen on planet Cereal. In chapter #76 of Dragon Ball Super by Akira Toriyama and artist Toyotarou, Vegeta actually attacks Goku when the other Saiyan had the audacity to interfere in his fight against the Cerealean Granolah. The Saiyan Prince explains to his surprised rival that there was no reason for them to fight alongside each other anymore, saying that the only reason why he had been all those years was because he had to protect the Earth and his family. Moreover, Vegeta explains that since they were now fighting on a completely different planet, he would rather die than team up with Goku again.

Even after Vegeta reformed in DBZ, the Saiyan always conveyed a dislike for Goku to some degree, diminishing it to more of a humorous gag than anything else. However, Goku and Piccolo's discussion was a little more sinister just because it was someone other than Vegeta seriously addressing their relationship as opposed to another character just quipping about it offhandedly. Of course, chapter #12 of the manga presented the scene not as jokingly. The manga obviously couldn't employ the emotional music like the anime, which also added in Piccolo chuckling at Goku's ignorance, which is completely new.

Vegeta's First Fight Against Goku Black Also Hinted at His True Feelings

Vegeta attacks Goku Black

Although the first instance where Super hinted at Vegeta's true feelings for Goku, their later battle against Zamasu, who was originally known as Goku Black for stealing Goku's body, would also foreshadow Vegeta's dislike for the light-hearted Saiyan. In chapter #19 of Dragon Ball Super, Vegeta attacks the masked Zamasu immediately before asking Goku whether he could fight him first because, in Vegeta's words, he lost patience the minute he saw their opponent's face. This is important because, before that moment, it had become a time-honored tradition between the two Saiyans to argue over who would get the honors of fighting a new opponent first. Even if Vegeta especially wanted to fight first for whatever reason, Vegeta would still vocalize his wishes. In other words, Vegeta just wanted to punch Goku in the face. This along with Piccolo's unsettling conversation with Goku foreshadowed what would become Vegeta's most despicable moment in Dragon Ball Super.
