Nvidia has announced two new GPUs – the RTX 4060 and the RTX 4060 Ti. In total, there are three new cards, two of which are variants of the 4060 Ti. These graphics cards belong to the GeForce lineup and succeed the RTX 3060 and RTX 3060 Ti from 2020. Although they don’t offer a giant leap in terms of performance, Nvidia has stepped up the power-efficiency game.

Both cards are based on the company’s new Ada Lovelace architecture and are ideal for gaming in 1080p. However, their price sets them apart from other graphics processors in the segment. From performance to specifications and availability, here’s everything buyers need to know about the new Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 and 4060 GPUs.

With the RTX 4000 series, Nvidia revealed its new Ada Lovelace GPU micro-architecture based on a 4nm process node. The technology takes over Nvidia Ampere (8nm process node), which came out in 2020. With a smaller transistor size, the company can fit more transistors into the same card. As a result, the latest generation graphics cards from the company deliver better performance and more energy efficiency. Both the RTX 4060 and 4060 Ti GPUs will feature the Ada Lovelace architecture.

In an official press release, the Vice-President of Global Marketing for Nvidia GeForce, Matt Wuebbling, says, “The RTX 4060 family delivers PC gamers both great value and great performance at 1080p, whether they’re building a gaming battle box or an AI-assisted creation station.” The affordable RTX 4060 and 4060 Ti can deliver above 100 frames per second for several popular titles using DLSS frame generation technology. It is important to note that these graphics processing cards are unsuitable for 4K gaming, especially at high frame rates.

5 Energy Efficiency

As mentioned earlier, the RTX 4060 and 4060 Ti come with Nvidia’s Ada Lovelace architecture, which makes them much more power efficient than previous models. Per Nvidia, the Lovelace-powered graphic cards are almost twice as efficient as those that feature Ampere architecture. The graphics power mentioned on the official landing page is 115W for RTX 4060 and 165/160 for the 8GB/16GB RTX 4060 Ti, less than 170W for RTX 3060, and 200W for the RTX 3060 Ti.

4 Key Specifications

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 features 3,017 CUDA cores with a maximum frequency of 2.46GHz and a base frequency of 1.83GHz. On the other hand, the more powerful RTX 4060 Ti has 4,352 CUDA cores, with a maximum boost clock of 2.54GHz and a base frequency of 2.31GHz. Regarding memory, the RTX 4060 comes with 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM, whereas the RTX 4060 Ti comes with 8GB or 16GB of DRR6 VRAM.

While the RTX 4060 has a 23MB L2 cache, the more powerful RTX 4060 Ti comes with 32MB of L2 cache. Both graphics cards offer features like 3rd-generation Ray Tracing, 4th-generation Tensor Cores DLSS, Reflex, Nvidia Broadcast, and support DirectX 12.

3 Performance

Nvidia’s latest graphic processors offer a significant improvement over their predecessors. The RTX 4060 delivers up to 1.7 times better performance than RTX 3060 with Frame Gen. Similarly, the RTX 4060 Ti offers up to 1.7 times better performance than the RTX 3060 Ti. With more CUDA cores, the 4060 Ti can render more video games above 100 frames per second at 1080p.

For instance, gamers can get more than 120 frames per second in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Titles that support Frame Gen technology, such as Microsoft Flight Simulator, can even run on 200 frames per second. The slightly less capable RTX 4060 can run the latest Assassin’s Creed game at about 100 frames per second and Microsoft Flight Simulator at over 160 frames per second.

This is where things get more interesting. The 8GB RTX 4060 will cost $299, a drop from the RTX 3060’s initial price of $329. This makes it one of the most affordable yet capable video cards in the market. On the other hand, the 8GB RTX 4060 Ti will cost buyers $399, which is the same price at which Nvidia launched the RTX 3060 Ti. The top-of-the-line 16GB RTX 4060 Ti will sell for $499.
