Players don't just take on Hunts for the thrill of battle in Final Fantasy 16; more often than not, they're after some kind of reward. Hunts aren't always easy: they begin with the player receiving vague instructions that point them in the general direction of a troublesome monster, whom they must find by their own devices. Finding the monster is just half the battle - the other half is the actual battle, and that's no easier. Even the easiest Notorious Marks in FF16 move fast, hit hard, and are unpredictable - and some of them are harder than others.

All Hunts in Final Fantasy 16 come with some kind of reward. At the very least, the player will receive a bit of Gil, a few Renown points to cash in at the Patron's Whisper, and whatever XP the Mark grants. In rarer cases, though, Notorious Marks have unique rewards. Some of them are part of quests that grant the player important upgrades. Others drop materials that are used to craft some of the FF16's best items. If the player's not motivated by the thrill of the Hunt and the desire to challenge themselves, then these material rewards should help convince them to start clearing FF16's Hunt Board.

10 Kuza Beast

A behemoth-type enemy in FF16, resembling a giant, horned wolf, grins as it destroys a building.

Despite being a relatively weak A-rank Mark, the Kuza Beast is one of the last Hunts players unlock during their journeys through FF16. It becomes available via the side quest “Nobody’s Tool,” only available during the penultimate story quest “Back to Their Origin.” Kuza Beast slumbers in Balmung Dark, part of the Kingdom of Waloed. It’s a Behemoth-type enemy, which means that players have fought many like it before. Defeating Kuza Beast rewards the player with one of two Behemoth Shackles in FF16, which can be used to craft and upgrade the Defender sword. Players also get 15,000 Gil, 5,500 XP, and 35 Renown.

9 Gobermouch

Final Fantasy 16's Gobermouch holding a club while expressing anger.

Gobermouch is something of a joke enemy in FF16, but that doesn’t mean he’s a total pushover. Although a diminutive Goblin, he fights like a dominant Gigas, a Goblin variant ten times his size. He swings his club in circles, and can swoop in to deliver a powerful, unblockable Goblin Punch. Still, he’s pretty slow overall, and is no match for Clive’s godlike Eikonic power. Gobermouch can be fought in Eistla, a province of Waloed. The reward for defeating him, in addition to 15,000 Gil, 4,800 XP, and 30 Renown, is a Primitive Battlehorn. This is the first material needed to craft Gotterdammerung, the best sword in FF16.

8 Thanatos

Thanatos, a muscular humanoid enemy that looks to be made of glowing blue rock, raises its arms in a screenshot from FF16.

Thanatos is an A-rank Hunt that unlocks after the FF16 main quest "Brotherhood." The powerful Underworld Usher can be found in Titan's Wake, part of the Dhalmekian Republic. Unlike most large enemies in FF16, Thanatos is pretty fast, and his speed doesn’t come at the cost of damage. Players should watch out for the energy cannon Spirits Without, attempting to get behind him while he’s distracted. They’ll also need to jump in sync with the shockwaves of his move Destrudo. The reward: 17,000 Gil, 9,000 XP, 45 Renown, and Darksteel, the second of four materials needed to create Gotterdammerung.

7 Prince Of Death

The Prince of Death, a slender, rocky enemy with glowing red spots, hovers above the ground in FF16, spear at the ready.

Gotterdammerung actually requires two pieces of Darksteel to craft in FF16, and a second piece can be obtained by taking on the A-rank Hunt, Prince of Death. However, the Prince will only show his face during the second-to-last main quest, "Back to Their Origin," and then only if the player has completed the "Under New Management" side quest series. He's found in Cape Orsiere in Sanbreque. Players will need to avoid rushing into his lengthy Soul Harvest combo, then take advantage of its long recovery time. The Prince of Death Hunt rewards the player with 15,000 Gil, 8,000 XP, 45 Renown, and the second piece of Darksteel.

6 Atlas

The final material needed to craft Gotterdammerung is Orichalcum, and players will need three pieces of it. Thankfully, FF16 provides opportunities to collect as many as five: three for the sword, and one each to make the Ouroboros belt and the Sons of Ouroboros vambraces, the best pieces of armor in the game. Four of those pieces come from S-rank Hunts, and Atlas is the first Notorious Mark with an Orichalcum reward. He’s also the easiest S-rank target, being slow and easily dodged. Atlas may be found in Cressidia, within the fallen duchy of Rosaria. Besides Orichalcum, players also get 20,000 Gil, 15,000 XP, and 50 Renown for beating him.

5 Gorgimera

Gorgimera, a chimera with a lion's body, two serpentine heads, and dragon's wings, stands in a sandy clearing in FF16.

The second piece of Orichalcum comes from Gorgimera, a chimera-like enemy with three heads. Located in the Velkroy Desert outside the capital of Dhalmekia, this is a tough fight, requiring players to stay on their toes as they dodge frequent incoming AOE attacks. The combination of Dragon’s Voice and Ram’s Voice is particularly worrisome; the player must first jump into a safe zone within melee range of the boss, then quickly gain some distance to avoid being struck by frozen spikes. Still, with a little fancy footwork, this boss can be beaten, and the player rewarded with 20,000 Gil, 15,000 XP, 50 Renown, and 1 Orichalcum.

4 Behemoth King

The Behemoth King, a massive, horned monster, roars as lightning strikes in a screenshot from Final Fantasy 16.

The Behemoth King Hunt can grant players the third and final piece of Orichalcum they need to craft Gotterdammerung in FF16. The Behemoth King is probably the hardest Notorious Mark in FF16, and is unlocked during the “Back to Their Origin” main quest. He can be found in Vidargraes, part of the Kingdom of Waloed, and primarily uses magic to attack. The Behemoth King is especially fond of summoning meteors, and can use the move Apocalypse to blanket the battlefield in heavenly debris. The reward for defeating him is 20,000 Gil, 20,000 XP, 55 Renown, the third piece of Orichalcum, and the second Behemoth Shackle.

3 Pandemonium

Pandemonium's splash screen from FF16. He's a giant muscular orc, wearing horned armor and holding a club aloft.

Pandemonium is unique among S-rank Hunts in FF16: he’s the only Mark in the category whose defeat doesn’t reward players with a piece of Orichalcum. Instead, completing this Hunt grants players a Stained Loincloth. But it’s more than just the orc king’s dirty underwear: this is actually a necessary component for crafting the Sons of Ouroboros vambraces, one of the best armor pieces in the game. Just don’t think too much about it. Pandemonium can be found in Wolfdarr, part of Waloed. He’s a fairly easy mark, as long as players can avoid his AOE attacks. The reward also includes 20,000 Gil, 15,000 XP, and 50 Renown.

2 Carrot

How To Find (& Beat) Carrot In Final Fantasy 16

The reward for beating Carrot in FF16 may seem underwhelming: compared to some of the other Marks on this list, 10,000 Gil, 2,000 XP, and 20 Renown doesn’t seem like much. However, players can only challenge Carrot as part of the side quest “Please Sir, Can I Have Some Morbol,” which comes with a more worthwhile bounty: an increase to the healing potency of potions and high potions. Carrot stalks the Whispering Waters in Rosaria, and is easy to beat. It’s a Morbol type enemy - there are quite a few of these in the game, and they all use the same tentacle swipes and Bad Breath gas clouds.

1 Svarog

Final Fantasy 16's Svarog on the left, with Clive using electric powers on the right.

Svarog is the highest-level and most highly rewarding Hunt in FF16. At level 50, Svarog is a powerful dragon, launching bullet hell-like barrages of glowing orbs at the player. It can be found within Mornebrume, a forest area in Sanbreque, close to Caer Norvent Glorieuse Gate, during and after the main quest "Things Fall Apart." Defeating Svarog nets the player a fourth piece of Orichalcum, an Empty Shard, a piece of Amber, and a Fallen Enigma (which can be sold for a combined 9,800 Gil). That's in addition to the highest experiential and monetary reward of any Hunt: 30,000 Gil, 25,000 XP, and 60 Renown.

Some of FF16's most difficult Hunts test the player's skills, while others are so hard they only test the player's patience. However, completing them is never a waste of the player's time; the rewards are many, and often necessary for obtaining the best weapons, items, and equipment in the game. Although the full extent of a Hunt's rewards remain a secret until it's done and dusted, the XP, Gil, and Renown should be enough of an incentive. Therefore, players should make a habit of hunting down Final Fantasy 16's Notorious Marks as early and as often as possible.
